ANALYSIS 3 (source: advanceinternet.com)

This information graphic is about the most treasured film awards: the Academy Awards. The infographic shows the most fascinating aspects of the prizes: the artists with record numbers, a timeline with the most important events in the history of the Oscars and a little curious comparison.

This information graphic is very figurative. Except the timeline, information that is describing is represented as it says: for the records of the Academy Awards, the author uses cartoons (Oscars) to show the number, and uses also drawings for the comparisons for to make it much more visual.
In addition, we found several decorative elements (such as the figure of Oscar in the middle and all the drawings on the timeline).
All this makes the infographic quite dense, due also to the amount of text that we can observe around each shape.
Despite being all turning around the same topic (the Academy Awards), the information displayed is totally different from one another.
The timeline, comparison and bar charts are very familiar to us, so it’s not original at all.
We can say that the infographic is also redundant since it added them to graphics text and number, so you can even get repeated information.

To conclude, this information graphic is intelligible and shallower as it shows the information in a very simple and basic way. It is not very deep in some aspects, but it highlights the curiosities of Academy Awards. Therefore, this infographic could be interesting both moviegoers and those who just follow it occasionally.

This is the tension wheel which is used to analyze information graphics. The important thing is to relate the points until you create an area. Then, this area is used to achieve a prompted conclusion:

  1. I am not sure I totally agree with you. I find it more dense than you with all the text. Of course; the grids with the blue transparent boxes help guiding the reader through the graphic. And of course the timeline helps too. But I still think it is quite dense. Where, by the way, do you find all the redundant information: I don't find it that redundant as the text is only decribed one time.

  3. Hello Ariadna! First of all congrats for your blog it is very complete and elaborated. I agree with Christian and Lluis in the sense of the infographic is quite dense in a first view and it can be a little be complicated to focalized in the most important information in a first glance. Despite of that I think colors and draws have been very well chose and the infographic is pretty original and attractive. =)

  4. Hi, guys! I appreciate your observations and I'll take note of it. In my opinion, the text makes it quite dense, although I think it's also light because of the space it leaves between the elements it shows.
I think it's a matter of how we see this information graphic.
    Thank you!
